Tips for Saving on Family Vacations
The following are some tips on how you can get the most from your vacation dollars:
- Consider vacationing closer to home. If the airfares you are finding seem too high, a road trip might be your best bet. Currently gas costs about 40 cents per gallon less than it was around this time in ’08. Hotel prices in many locals are at all time lows.
- Look at vacationing somewhere that is low season (i.e. cheaper). During the summer, prices drop in places like Arizona, Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean.
- If you can take your family on a vacation before school lets out or after school has started, often you can snare great prices at even the most popular resorts.
- Join AAA. Membership entitles you to discounts for a huge array of travel services, including hotels, trains, amusement parks and more.
- Consider beginning and ending your vacation outside of weekend days. Often by leaving and returning on a Monday or Tuesday your family can save hundreds.
- Think about renting a hotel room that comes with a kitchen. All-suite hotels, such as Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, or Candlewood Suites offer kitchens which can save you big bucks vs. eating every meal at a restaurant. Many hotels offer free breakfast, which combined with a light lunch, means you really only buy one meal a day.
Lots of great travel deals are there for the taking. Just make certain that you do your homework (i.e., find the best deals for you and your family) before you take your next vacation.
